IronPigs shut out the RailRiders for their third win in a row

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

After sweeping the doubleheader on Friday, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (12-11) looked to make it three wins in a row at PNC Field on Saturday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (9-13).

Bailey Falter (0-1, 4.91 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley, while the RailRiders started Matt Krook (1-2, 2.50 ERA).

The game was scoreless for the first seven innings. IronPigs’ starter Bailey Falter pitched 2.1 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, no walks, and five strikeouts.

The IronPigs had three chances to break the scoreless tie, twice with the bases loaded but could not score. Finally, the IronPigs broke the scoreless tie at the top of the eighth inning.

IronPigs’ right fielder John Andreoli was up at-bat with runners on first and second base with two outs. He singled on a soft line drive to right field, scoring both runners for a 2-0 lead.

A throwing error by RailRiders’ right fielder Phillip Evans allowed Andreoli to advance to third base. However, the IronPigs could not bring home Andreoli after IronPigs’ shortstop Bryson Stott struck out swinging for the third out.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the ninth inning, IronPigs relief pitcher Connor Brogdon closed out the game. After giving up a triple and a walk, Brogdon recovered to get the last three outs that ended the game, and the IronPigs shut out the RailRiders 2-0. The IronPigs have now won three straight games.

The win went to IronPigs relief pitcher Jonathan Hennigan (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO), while the loss went to RailRiders relief pitcher Carlos Espinal (2.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 0 SO).
