Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks make a trade

On Monday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Edmonton Elks made a trade ahead of tonight’s CFL Global Draft and CFL Draft.

The Tiger-Cats are getting offensive lineman Kyle Saxelid, linebacker Grant McDonald, and a 2022 CFL Global Draft Pick (2nd overall) in exchange for two CFL Draft picks (8th, 28th) and the ninth overall pick in the CFL Global Draft.

Kyle Saxelid (27-years-old) played 11 games in 2021 and 29 games in two seasons in Edmonton. The Elks (then the Eskimos) drafted Saxelid in the second round (12th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft from UNLV. The Elk Grove, California, native played 36 games in three seasons (2015-17) at UNLV.

Grant McDonald (22-years-old) played 14 games for the Elks in 2021 with sixteen tackles on special teams. The Elks drafted McDonald in the second round (14th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft from Calgary.

McDonald played one season at the University of Maine (2017) with seven tackles and one forced fumble on special teams in nine games. The Tsawwassen, BC, native transferred to Calgary (2018-19) with 83 tackles, 4.5 sacks, one interception, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
