On Friday, the Edmonton Elks signed former Ohio State and DC Defenders quarterback Cardale Jones.
Cardale Jones (29-years-old) played for the DC Defenders (XFL) in 2020 with 61 of 113 completions for 674-yards, four touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 17 carries for 61-yards in five games before the league was shut down due to the pandemic.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native played three seasons at Ohio State (2013-15) with 167 of 270 completions for 2,323-yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 153 carries for 617-yards and four touchdowns. He led Ohio State to win the first CFP National Championship over Oregon 42-20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The Buffalo Bills drafted Jones in the fourth round (139th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played one game for the Bills with six completions for 96-yards and one interception.
The Bills traded Jones to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, and in 2019 was on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks.
Jones is replacing J.T. Barrett, who was placed on the retired list. The Elks’ confirmed that an injury in March would prevent Barrett from competing in the 2022 season. J.T. Barrett signed with Edmonton in January of this year.
