Edmonton Elks release quarterback Cardale Jones, sign running back Sherman Badie

The Edmonton Elks made several moves on Friday, including releasing former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones, who signed with the team two weeks ago.

Cardale Jones (29-years-old) played for the DC Defenders (XFL) in 2020 with 61 of 113 completions for 674-yards, four touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 17 carries for 61-yards in five games before the league was shut down due to the pandemic.

The Cleveland, Ohio, native played three seasons at Ohio State (2013-15) with 167 of 270 completions for 2,323-yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 153 carries for 617-yards and four touchdowns. He led Ohio State to win the first CFP National Championship over Oregon 42-20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Buffalo Bills drafted Jones in the fourth round (139th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played one game for the Bills with six completions for 96-yards and one interception.

The Bills traded Jones to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017, and in 2019 was on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks.

In addition, the Elks signed former Tulane running back Sherman Badie (27-years-old). The Metairie, Louisiana, native played four seasons at Tulane (2014-17) with 296 carries for 1,517-yards, nine touchdowns, 56 catches for 419-yards, and one touchdown in 44 games. Badie had 52 kick returns for 1,204-yards, one touchdown, and one punt return for 23-yards on special teams. He was named to the 2015-16 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

In 2019, Badie played for the Memphis Express (AAF) with one carry for 16-yards in three games. Then in 2020, he was with the St. Louis BattleHawks (XFL) but did not see any action.
