IronPigs shut out in a rain shortened game in Rochester

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

On Saturday night at Frontier Field, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (22-19) played game five against the Rochester Red Wings (26-15) on Milo the Bat Dog Appearance with Meet-And-Pet. Milo is a golden retriever who retrieves bats and brings them back to the Red Wings dugout.

Colton Eastman (0-3, 4.73 ERA) was on the mound for the IronPigs looking for his first win of the season, while the Red Wings started Jackson Tetreault (2-2, 3.86 ERA).

At the top of the first inning, the IronPigs got themselves in scoring position with a double from center fielder Matt Vierling and a walk by catcher Austin Wynns with no outs.

Then, both IronPigs’ first baseman Darick Hall and left fielder Jorge Bonifacio struck out. After IronPigs’ shortstop, Nick Maton walked, loading the bases, third baseman Yairo Munoz grounded out to shortstop Luis Garcia for the third out.

Moving ahead to the bottom of the third inning, the Red Wings took the lead. Red Wings’ right fielder Donovan Casey was up at-bat. He hit a solo home run over the scoreboard at left field for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, tensions brewed. IronPigs’ starter Colton Eastman struck out Red Wings’ shortstop Luis Garcia and the two were jawing at one another, leading to the benches and bullpens emptying. Luckily, no punches were thrown. However, Red Wings’ manager Matthew LeCroy was ejected.

At the top of the sixth inning, the rain came. It got heavier just before the inning ended, and the tarp came out. After an hour, the game was called, and the Red Wings won the game 1-0.

The win went to Red Wings’ starter Jackson Tetreault (5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 SO), while the loss went to IronPigs’ starter Colton Eastman (5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 SO). It is Eastman’s fourth loss of the season.

The final game of the series is today at 1:05 pm. Tickets for the game can be purchased thanks to our friends at StubHub.
