Gamblers wide receiver Isaiah Zuber catches a touchdown

On Saturday night at Protective Stadium, the Houston Gamblers (2-7) shocked the football world with a 17-15 win over the last unbeaten team in the USFL, the Birmingham Stallions (8-1). The Stallions are now tied with the Generals for the best record in the USFL.

Gamblers’ quarterback Kenji Bahar went 16/24 for 164 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, and led the rushers with six carries for 36 yards. Wide receiver Tyler Palka led the receivers with six catches for 83 yards, while Isaiah Zuber had three catches for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Gamblers’ kicker Nick Vogel was 3/3 with his longest field goal for 50 yards. The Gamblers’ defense allowed 308 yards, 65 tackles, two sacks, six pass breakups, and a game-winning interception by Micah Abernathy.

Stallions’ quarterback J’Mar Smith was 28/41 for 239 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and four carries for 21 yards while running back Bo Scarbrough had 11 carries for 31 yards. Wide receiver Marlon Williams led the receivers with seven catches for 65 yards, and Adrian Hardy had two catches for 39 yards and one touchdown.

Stallions’ kicker Brandon Aubrey was 3/3 with his longest field for 28 yards. The Stallions’ defense allowed 187 yards, 61 tackles, two sacks, and three pass breakups.

Next week, the Stallions end the regular season on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Bandits at 4 pm on FOX, while the Gamblers battle the New Orleans Breakers on Sunday at 8:30 pm on FS1. Tickets for both games can be purchased thanks to our friends at StubHub.
