IronPigs shut out to close out the road trip in Omaha

Lehigh Valley IronPigs

On Sunday night at Werner Park, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-26) wrapped up a 12-game road trip with a 10-0 shut-out loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers (29-29).

Jake Newberry (1-0, 3.71 ERA) was on the mound for Lehigh Valley, while the Storm Chasers started Zack Greinke (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

In the bottom of the first inning, Jake Newberry allowed a bases-loaded walk that put Omaha up 1-0 with two outs. He got Clay Dungan to fly out for the last out. However, that would be it for Newberry, who went one inning, allowing one hit, one run, four walks, and one strikeout. This was a questionable move by manager Anthony Contreras.

Storm Chasers’ first baseman Nick Pratto went two-for-five with a three-run home run, a two-run single, and five RBIs. Meanwhile, Storm Chasers’ center fielder Nate Eaton, catcher Cam Gallagher, left fielder Brewer Hicklin, second baseman Clay Dungan, and shortstop Angelo Castellanos all drove in runs.

The win went to Storm Chasers’ starter Zack Greinke (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO), while the loss went to IronPigs’ starter Jake Newberry, his first loss of the season.

The IronPigs went through nine pitchers, while the batters only had two hits. They failed to get a runner in scoring position. From the moment this team took to the field, they were ready to get the game over with and go home. There was low effort or will to try to win the game. This was the second time in the series where the IronPigs allowed ten or more runs against the Storm Chasers. However, they did win the series 4-2.

The IronPigs will get a much-needed day off before returning home to Coca-Cola Park to begin a 12-game homestand, starting on Tuesday against the Buffalo Bisons at 7:05 pm. Tickets for the game can be purchased thanks to our friends at StubHub, and pick up IronPigs merchandise today at Fanatics.com.
