Montreal Alouettes acquires RB Walter Fletcher from Edmonton

Montreal Alouettes

On Tuesday, the Montreal Alouettes acquired running back Walter Fletcher from the Edmonton Elks for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

This trade gives Montreal depth at running back after losing running back William Stanback in last week’s loss at Calgary, and he was placed on the six-game injured list with a fractured right ankle. He had surgery on the ankle on Monday.

Walter Fletcher (25-years-old) played one season with the Elks with 67 carries for 302 yards and 22 catches for 177 yards in 11 games.

The Columbia, Maryland, native played three seasons at Edinboro University (2016-18) in Pennsylvania with 632 carries for 3,913 yards, 41 touchdowns, 93 catches for 692 yards, and six touchdowns in 32 games for the Fighting Scots. He was a 2016 All-PSAC West Second Team, a two-time (2017, 2018) All-PSAC West First Team, 2017 AP Division II All-American (Second Team), and 2018 PSAC Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Year.

After Edinboro, Fletcher transferred to Ball State (2019) with 132 carries for 726 yards, five touchdowns, 26 catches for 306 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games.
