On Monday, the Montreal Alouettes moved running back William Stanback to the six-game injured list after having surgery on his fractured right ankle, as reported by TSN Montreal reporter John Lu.
William Stanback (27-years-old) was injured in last Thursday’s game against the Calgary Stampeders and had to be carted off the field. He finished the game with three carries for 11 yards, one catch for two yards, and one touchdown.
The Hempstead, New York, native is in his fourth season with 447 carries for 2,774 yards, eight touchdowns, 76 catches for 773 yards, and three touchdowns in 43 games. Last year, he was an Eastern Division nominee for Most Outstanding Player with 93 carries for 1,176 yards, three touchdowns, and 16 catches for 114 yards.
In addition, the Alouettes signed former Towson running back Shane Simpson (24-years-old). He attended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers training camp.
The Easton, Pennsylvania, native played five seasons at Towson (2015-18) with 376 carries for 1,925-yards, 13 touchdowns, 61 catches for 184-yards, and six touchdowns. In 2016, he was named All-CAA First-Team CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year and ECAC Offensive Rookie of the Year. However, injuries cost him in 2015 and 2019.
He was granted a sixth year and transferred to Virginia (2019), playing ten games with 54 carries for 284-yards, two touchdowns, 13 catches for 133-yards, and one touchdown.
The Alouettes visit the Toronto Argonauts on Thursday at 7:30 pm on ESPN2.
