Toronto Argonauts release wide receiver Earnest Edwards

On Tuesday, the Toronto Argonauts released wide receiver Earnest Edwards. The 24-year-old from Rochester, New York, signed with the team in January and attended training camp.

In 2021, Edwards played for the Edmonton Elks with 15 catches for 168 yards, one touchdown, and two carries for seven yards in seven games. He also returned 18 punts for 96 yards and 12 kick returns for 203 yards on special teams.

In college, Edwards played four years at Maine (2016-19) with 125 catches for 2,370 yards, 23 touchdowns, 59 carries for 438 yards, and two touchdowns in 40 games. He had 83 kick returns for 2,046 yards and nine punt returns for 55 yards on special teams. In 2019, Edwards was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team as a wide receiver and kick return specialist.
