On Tuesday, the Edmonton Elks made a series of moves, including signing former Mississippi State safety Brian Cole II to the practice squad.
In addition, the Elks added wide receiver Caleb Holley and defensive back Ethan Makonzo to the practice squad. Finally, Edmonton placed offensive lineman Marc David Bien Aime on the suspended list.
Brian Cole II (25-years-old) was with the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the preseason before being released. The Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the seventh round (249th pick) in the 2020 NFL Draft. He also spent time on the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers practice squad.
The Saginaw, Michigan, native started as a wide receiver in Michigan (2015), catching one pass for -1-yard in two games. He transferred to East Mississippi Community College (2016) and switched to defensive back, making 54 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and one fumble returned for a touchdown in six games.
Then, Cole transferred to Mississippi State (2018-19) as a safety. He made 78 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 17 games. He was the 2019 Team Captain and participated in the 2020 Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine.
Caleb Holley (31-years-old) played one game for the Elks against Saskatchewan in week two with two catches for 51 yards. Holley spent his first three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016-18) and one year with the Ottawa Redblacks (2019). In four seasons in the CFL, Holley played 47 games with 157 catches for 1,963 yards and seven touchdowns.
Ethan Makonzo (26-years-old) returns to Edmonton one day after being released. He played two games for the Elks this year. He is the older brother of Ethan Makonzo. The Montreal Alouettes drafted Ethan in the sixth round (46th pick) in the 2021 CFL Draft from the University of Montreal.
Marc David Bien Aime (25-years-old) was drafted by the Elks in the third round (21st pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft. However, he has yet to see a regular season action this year. The Montreal, Quebec native played two seasons at Montmorency College and two seasons at Fresno State (2018-19) and played one game for the Bulldogs.
