On Wednesday, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms re-signed captain Cal O’Reilly for the 2022-23 season. This will be his fourth season in Lehigh Valley. The Nashville Predators drafted O’Reilly in the fifth-round (150th pick) in the 2005 NHL Draft.
The Toronto, Ontario, native scored 21 goals and 32 assists (53 points) in 75 games last season and reached a milestone playing in his 1,00th game at the Laval Rocket on March 25, 2022. His 53-points marked the seventh time in his career that he’s eclipsed the 50-point mark. The 34-year-old has 31 goals and 74 assists (105 points) in three seasons with the Phantoms.
This will be O’Reilly’s 16th season in the AHL. In his historic career, O’Reilly had appeared in two Calder Cup Finals with the Milwaukee Admirals (2006) and Utica Comets (2015). In addition to the Phantoms, O’Reilly played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Rochester Americans, Toronto Marlies, and the Iowa Wild. In 826 career games, O’Reilly has 151 goals and 535 assists (686 points).
Cal O’Reilly has spent time in the NHL with the Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Phoenix Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, and Minnesota Wild, with 16 goals and 33 assists (49 points) in 145 games.
