On Wednesday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed running back Shaquille Cooper. The 29-year-old from Coral Gables, Florida, attended Saskatchewan’s training camp earlier this year. Cooper had five carries for eight yards, one catch for seven yards, and three kick returns for 77 yards in both preseason games.
Shaquille Cooper played for the BC Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2021. In BC, Cooper played five games with 33 carries for 142-yards, one touchdown, and 11 catches for 69-yards. In Winnipeg, Cooper played two games with two punt returns for 19-yards and five kickoff returns for 108-yards on special teams.
Before the Lions and Blue Bombers, Cooper played two seasons (2018-19) for the Edmonton Elks (then known as the Eskimos) with 90 carries for 496-yards, two touchdowns, 21 catches for 156-yards, and one touchdown in seven games.
Cooper played three seasons at Fort Hayes State (2012, 2015-16) with 456 carries for 2,768 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 73 catches for 736-yards and ten touchdowns.
In 2015, Cooper was named the D2CCA All-Super Region 3 First Team, Don Hansen All-Super Region 3 Second Team, All-MIAA First Team, and Don Hansen All-America Honorable Mention.
