On Monday, the Reading Royals signed goalie Justin Kapelmaster for the 2022-23 season. The 26-year-old from Coral Springs, Florida, played 17 games in the ECHL with the Worcester Railers, Jacksonville Iceman, and Indy Fuel. He had a 7-7-2 record and three shutouts.
Kapelmaster played four seasons in college, three with Ferris State University (2016-18) and one season at Robert Morris University (2019), with a 29-37-7 record, six shutouts, 2.71 goals against average, and a .921 save percentage. He was named NCAA (WCHA) Third All-Star Team in 2016-17 and NCAA (AHA) Second All-Conference Team in 2019-20.
In the 2020-21 season, Kapelmaster played 21 games in the ECHL for the Allen Americans (7-10-1, 2.96 GAA, .905 SV%) and the Fort Wayne Comets (0-1, 5.57 GAA, .829 SV%), winning a Kelly Cup with Fort Wayne.
During the Comets Kelly Cup run, Kapelmaster was 1-0 in the playoffs with a 1.000 save percentage in one game. He also played two games in the AHL for the Cleveland Monsters, winning both games, with 1.95 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.
