Edmonton Elks signs former Mississippi State linebacker Mark McLaurin

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Elks signed former Mississippi State linebacker Mark McLaurin. The Elks also announced they released defensive back Ethan Makonzo and wide receivers, Charles Nelson and Hakeem Butler.

Mark McLaurin is a 25-year-old from Collins, Mississippi, played four seasons at Mississippi State (2015-18) with 224 tackles, 2.5 sacks, eight interceptions, 26 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 51 games.

In the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl against Louisville, McLaurin had eleven tackles and three interceptions and was named MVP. In addition, McLaurin was named to the Associated Press All-Bowl Team.

After college, McLaurin attended the New York Giants training camp in 2019 but suffered a broken foot and was placed on injured reserve. The Giants released him in 2020.
