On Friday, Meyer Shank Racing confirmed that four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves is returning to the No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda for the 2023 season. The 47-year-old from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is 18th in the point standings and has three top-ten finishers this year. His top-ten finishes came at Long Beach (9th), Indianapolis (7th), and Mid-Ohio (8th).
“I’m so excited that myself and Meyer Shank Racing have renewed for 2023,” said Castroneves. “I’m super optimistic for an amazing season because of everything that we have built this season – all the positive data and positive energy. I can’t thank Mike and Jim enough and, of course, all of our partners. There is no question that we are all super excited to continue this amazing partnership. Simon (Pagenaud) and I are going to do everything we can to finish this season strong and then have a good start to 2023 and some even better results.”
This will be Castroneves’s third season with the team. In 2021, he won his fourth Indy 500 over Alex Palou, which was the first win for Meyer Shank since entering the IndyCar series in 2017.
In addition to IndyCar, Castroneves competes for Meyer Shank Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In 22 seasons in IndyCar, Castroneves had 50 poles, 31 wins, and 142 top-five finishes.
“Keeping Helio onboard wasn’t really a question for us. We’ve built a really strong relationship with him over these last two race seasons,” said Team Owner Mike Shank. “He brings so much to the table, on and off the track. He’s been able to help us grow as a team, and we’ve been able to learn from his years of experience. It’s truly a mutually beneficial relationship. And of course, he’s a perfect face of the sport and has such an infectious personality, so to have him on our team is an honor.”
Castroneves will look to get his first win of the season tonight from Wide World Technology at 6 pm on USA Network.
