On Sunday, the BC Lions announced that star quarterback Nathan Rourke will undergo surgery for a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot that he sustained in the fourth quarter during the Lions 28-10 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Lions released a statement on the injury. “After extensive consultation with team doctors and foot specialist. Nathan was diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot. It has been determined that the best course of action is for Nathan to undergo surgery, which will happen very soon. The club remains hopeful that the surgery and subsequent rehab will open the door for a return late this season. Michael O’Connor will start at quarterback on Friday against Saskatchewan.”
The 24-year-old from Victoria, British Columbia, was having a MOP year in his first full season as the Lions quarterback with 248/313 completions for 3,281 yards, 25 touchdowns, ten interceptions, 39 carries for 304 yards, and seven touchdowns in nine games this year.
The Lions drafted Rourke in the second round (15th pick) in the 2020 CFL Draft from Ohio. In two seasons, Rourke is 300/395 completions for 4,035 yards, 28 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 57 carries for 415 yards, and 12 touchdowns in 22 games.
Collegiately, Rourke played one season at Fort Scott Community College with 221/378 completions for 2,367 yards, 18 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 118 carries for 27 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games.
