On Thursday, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms signed former Utah Grizzlies forward Luka Burzan to a one-year contract for the 2022-23 season. The 22-year-old from Surrey, British Columbia, scored 13 goals and 18 assists (31 points) in 41 games for the Grizzlies and played ten games for the Colorado Eagles (AHL) last season.

In addition, Burzan scored two goals and two assists (4 points) for the Grizzlies in the ECHL playoffs. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies were eliminated in the semifinals against the Toledo Walleye.

Burzan played five seasons in the WHL for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Brandon Wheat Kings, scoring 104 goals and 103 assists (207 points) in 270 games. In addition, he scored five goals and five assists (10 points) in ten playoff games.

In Burzan’s last two seasons with Brandon, he scored 75 goals and 65 points (140 points), finishing ninth in the league in goals during both seasons.

Internationally, he played for Team Canada in the World Juniors in 2017, scoring two goals in six games and helping Team Canada win the Silver Medal.

The Colorado Avalanche drafted Burzan in the sixth round (171st pick) in the 2019 NHL Draft. In the 2020-21 season, Burzan played 14 games for the Colorado Eagles (AHL), scoring three goals and one assist (4 points) in 14 games. In addition, he played one playoff game for the Eagles.
