On Wednesday, the BC Lions acquired veteran quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. from the Montreal Alouettes for a 2023 first-round pick.
The 29-year-old from Pasadena, California, was 21-39 for 294 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, eight carries for 33 yards, and one touchdown this year in Montreal.
This move comes after the Lions lost starter Nathan Rourke a couple of weeks ago with a right foot injury, and the Lions lost to the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-16 last Friday. The Lions are in second place with an 8-2 record.
This isn’t the first time that the Alouettes traded Adams. In 2017, Montreal traded Adams and a fifth-round pick to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for Tevaughn Campbell, a third-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft.
In seven CFL seasons, Adams has completed 505/820 passes for 6,988 yards, 43 touchdowns, 26 interceptions, 203 carries for 978 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 67 games.
Collegiately, Adams played three seasons at Eastern Washington (2012-14) with 701/1,081 for 10,438 yards, 110 touchdowns, 31 interceptions, 297 carries for 1,205 yards, and 11 touchdowns in 34 games. He is a two-time Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time First-Team All-Big Sky.
After Eastern Washington, Adams transferred to Oregon, completing 168/259 passes for 2,643 yards, 26 touchdowns, six interceptions, 83 carries for 147 yards, and two touchdowns in ten games.
