Montreal Alouettes acquire Thomas Costigan and Nafees Lyon from Edmonton

On Wednesday, the Montreal Alouettes acquired defensive lineman Thomas Costigan and defensive back Nafees Lyon from the Edmonton Elks for defensive lineman Avery Ellis and a 2023 third-round pick.

Thomas Costigan, a 25-year-old from Stamford, Connecticut, had 14 tackles, three tackles on special teams, and three sacks in 11 games this year for Edmonton. In two seasons, Costigan has 38 tackles, three tackles on special teams, and nine sacks in 22 games.

Costigan played four seasons at Bryant University with 285 tackles, 26 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, nine pass breakups, one block, and three interceptions in 44 games.

Nafees Lyon, a 25-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, had 25 tackles, one forced fumble, one sack, and one interception in eight games for Edmonton this year. In two seasons, Lyon has 52 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and three interceptions in 13 games.

Lyon played four seasons at Charlotte (2016, 2018-20) with 137 tackles, two interceptions, 13 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 40 games.

Avery Ellis, a 27-year-old from Newark, New Jersey, had 17 tackles and three sacks in nine games for Montreal this year. He spent the previous four seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks. Ellis has 146 tackles, one tackle on special teams, one touchdown, two forced fumbles, and 21 sacks in 66 career games.

Ellis played four seasons at Temple (2012, 2014-16) with 41 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and special team blocks in 48 games.
