On Friday night at Wallace Wade Stadium, the Temple Owls were shut out by the Duke Blue Devils 30-0 to open the season.
Temple quarterback D’Wan Mathis was 11/21 for 83 yards while running back Edward Saydee had eight carries for 16 yards. Temple wide receiver Jose Barbon had five catches for 45 yards, and the Owls’ defense allowed 500 yards, 72 tackles, one sack, and two pass breakups.
Duke quarterback Riley Leonard was 24/30 for 328 yards, two touchdowns, and eleven carries for 64 yards. Running back Jaylen Coleman had eight carries for 43 yards and one touchdown, while wide receiver Jalon Calhoun had six catches for 90 yards. The Blue Devils’ defense allowed 179 yards, 56 tackles, one sack, and seven pass breakups.
