On Tuesday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders released defensive lineman Garrett Marino. The 28-year-old from Mission Viejo, California, had nine tackles and one sack in eight games for the Roughriders this year.
Marino was suspended on July 14th for four games after he recklessly hit Ottawa Redblacks quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and hitting offensive lineman. Marino ends a two-year stint with the Roughriders, making 22 tackles and five sacks in 15 games.
Marino played one season at Montana State (2014) with eight tackles in five games before being dismissed by the team after he was arrested for DUI. Then, Marino transferred to the University of Alabama-Birmingham (2017-19) with 95 tackles, 10.5 sacks, ten pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one block on special teams in 40 games.
Marino is a two-time Honorable Mention All-Conference USA (2017-18) and a First Team All-Conference USA in 2019. After his collegiate career ended, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2020 but was released on July 30th, 2020.
