On Tuesday, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed former Florida Tech defensive back J.T. Hassell to the practice squad.
J.T. Hassell, a 27-year-old from Titusville, Florida, played seven games for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets with eight tackles. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and became the first player from Florida Tech to appear in an NFL regular season game.
Hassell played his first two seasons at South Dakota State (2014-15) with 62 tackles, one sack, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one block on special teams in 26 games.
Then, Hassell transferred to Florida Tech (2017-18) with 203 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, 12 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 23 games. In 2018, he was named Division II All-American, First-team All-GSC, and GSC Defensive Player of the Year.
