Last Thursday, former Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward Matt Strome signed a one-year contract with the Hershey Bears for the 2022-23 season. He is the second former Phantoms to sign with the Bears after Logan Day joined them on August 18th.
The 23-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, scored five goals and 11 assists (16 points) in 63 games last season with the Phantoms. In addition, he played six games for the Reading Royals, scoring three goals and four assists (7 points).
Strome played four seasons for the Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL) with 115 goals and 132 assists (247 points) in 260 games. In addition, he scored seven goals and 23 assists (30 points) in 31 playoff games. Strome helped the Bulldogs win the OHL championship in the 2017-18 season. The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Strome in the fourth round (106th pick) in the 2017 NHL Draft.
After his OHL career ended, he joined the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for six games with two assists. He played five seasons in Lehigh Valley with eight goals and 15 assists (23 points) in 91 games. Strome also played three seasons in the ECHL with the Reading Royals and Greenville Swamp Rabbits, with 15 goals and 19 assists (34 points) in 57 games.
