On Wednesday, the Edmonton Elks re-signed quarterback Taylor Cornelius to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 season.
Taylor Cornelius, a 26-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, is 147 of 251 completions for 1,936 yards, eight touchdowns, six interceptions, 49 carries for 291 yards, and five touchdowns in eight games this year. In two seasons, Cornelius is 209 of 498 completions for 3,731 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions in 22 games.
Before joining the Elks, Cornelius was with the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) with 78 of 123 completions for 858 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions in five games before the season ended due to the pandemic. In 2019, he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent.
Collegiately, Cornelius played five seasons at Oklahoma State (2014-18) with 303 of 509 completions for 4,198 yards, 32 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, 139 carries for 514 yards, and 12 touchdowns in 21 games.
In the 2018 AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Cornelius was 26 of 44 for 336 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, leading the Cowboys to a 38-35 win on his way to being named the MVP. In addition, he is a two-time Second-Team Academic All-Big 12.
