On Thursday, the Toronto Argonauts signed former Duquesne wide receiver Cyrus Holder, former Carleton defensive back Jonathan Edouard, and former Northern Iowa defensive lineman Jared Brinkman to the practice squad. In addition, the Argonauts released fullback Joe Carbone and running back Adam Cofield.
Cyrus Holder, a 25-year-old from Uniondale, New York, signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent but was released a week later.
Collegiately, Holder played three seasons at St. Francis University (2016-18) with 62 catches for 1,150 yards and nine touchdowns in 25 games. In addition, Holder had one kick return for 13 yards. He was selected to Phil Steele’s Preseason Third Team All-NEC.
After St. Francis, Holder transferred to Duquesne (2020-21) with 60 catches for 1,120 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games. Holder is a two-time First-team All-NEC.
Jonathan Edouard, a 26-year-old from Orlando, Florida, played three seasons at Henderson State (2014-16) with 69 tackles, half sack, two interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery in 32 games. Then, Edouard transferred to Carleton (2018-19, 2021) with 55 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 15 games. Edouard was named Second Team OUA All-Star in his first season at Carleton.
Jared Brinkman, a 23-year-old from Iowa City, Iowa, attended the New York Jets rookie minicamp earlier this year. Collegiately, Brinkman played five seasons at Northern Iowa (2017-21) with 209 tackles, 18.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 55 games. Brinkman is a two-time Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year honor.
