On Thursday, A.J. Foyt Racing announced that Santino Ferrucci will drive the No. 14 Chevrolet full-time in 2023. This will be Ferrucci’s first full-time season since 2020 with Dale Coyne w/Vasser-Sullivan. Ferrucci joins Benjamin Pedersen, who was announced as the second driver for their team last week.
The 24-year-old from Woodbury, Connecticut, was in three races in 2022 with three different teams. His highest finish came at Texas Motor Speedway in March with a ninth place for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
In addition, Ferrucci competed in two NASCAR Xfinity Series races for Sam Hunt Racing. His highest finish was eleventh at Pocono in July. Ferrucci has made nine starts for Sam Hunt Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be back in the IndyCar Series full-time,” said Ferrucci. “Being a part-time driver over the last two years has been hard for me, personally. I’m a racecar driver, and I want to compete. Working with different teams has been exciting, and I’m proud that no matter which car I’ve raced, I’ve always shown speed and consistency. I couldn’t be more excited to join AJ Foyt Racing in the 14 Chevy. I can’t wait to make the best of it.”
This will be Ferrucci’s sixth season in IndyCar, with four top-five finishes in 43 starts. Before coming to IndyCar, Ferrucci was a development driver for Haas F1 for three seasons. At the age of 16, he became the youngest winner of a British Formula 3. Ferrucci has also raced in the GP3 Series (Now FIA Formula 3) and FIA Formula 2.
“I am thrilled to welcome Santino to the team,” Larry Foyt said. “He’s shown a knack for getting towards the front of the field, and I think he is a racer who moves forward on race day. A.J. sees the fire in him and has enjoyed their meetings together. I think Santino’s experience will help his rookie teammate as well, so he is a great addition to our roster.”
The NTT IndyCar Series starts the 2023 season on Sunday, March 5th, from the streets of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg, Florida.
