Calgary Stampeders signs two offensive linemen

On Monday, the Calgary Stampeders brought back offensive lineman Leon Johnson and signed offensive lineman Brandon Murphy to the practice squad.

Leon Johnson, a 27-year-old from Plainfield, New Jersey, returns to the Stampeders. He started in one game with Calgary in 2021. Collegiately, Johnson played 45 games in four seasons at Temple (2014-17). Johnson is a two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team (2015-16).

After Temple, he signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2018 and attended training camp. In 2019, Johnson played seven games, four of which were starts for the Salt Lake Stallions (AAF).

Brandon Murphy, a 26-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, recently the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp earlier this year. In 2021, he played two games for the Sea Lions (TSL) at right tackle.

Collegiately, Murphy played basketball for four seasons at Indiana State (2015-18), averaging 50.6 percent from the field, 61.4 percent from the free throw line, 4.7 points per game, and 3.7 rebounds per game. He transferred to Memphis as a defensive lineman in 2019 but never played a game.
