Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign two defensive backs, including Jordan Hoover

On Tuesday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed former Edmonton Elks defensive back Jordan Hoover and former Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Will Sunderland.

Jordan Hoover, a 29-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, played 13 games in 2021 for the Elks with 46 tackles, five special teams tackles, and one interception. The Elks (then Eskimos) drafted Hoover in the fourth round (31st pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft out of the University of Waterloo. In 66 career games, Hoover has 111 tackles, 23 special teams tackles, one sack, and three interceptions.

Collegiately, Hoover played four seasons at Waterloo (2013-16) with 126 tackles, eight interceptions, 16 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 27 games.

Will Sunderland, a 26-year-old from Midwest City, Oklahoma, spent most of the 2022 season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Sunderland played three preseason games for the Indianapolis Colts with three tackles last year.

In addition to the Colts, Sunderland spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. The Packers signed Sunderland as an undrafted free agent out of Troy.

Sunderland began his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma for two seasons (2015-16), playing 16 games with 18 tackles, one pass block, and one interception. After Oklahoma, he finished his collegiate career at Troy University (2018-19), playing 24 games with 59 tackles, 1.5 sacks, five interceptions, and nine pass blocks.
