On Sunday afternoon at Mary Brown’s Centre, the Reading Royals closed out the weekend with a 6-2 loss to the Newfoundland Growlers. The Royals are 0-3 and the Growlers are 3-0.
A minute and thirty-eight seconds into the first period, Reading forward Jacob Gaucher (1) put the Royals up 1-0 with an assist by Mason Millman.
However, the Growlers came back to score two goals by Isaac Johnson (2) and Todd Skirving (1). Reading tied the game, 2-2 at 12:10 on the power play by Max Newton (2) with assists by Zane Franklin and Trey Bradley.
Once again, Newfoundland came back to score three goals from Isaac Johnson (3), Tommy Miller (1), and Keenan Suthers (1) for a 5-2 lead after one period.
In the second period, Tyler Boland (2) scored at 12:10 with assists from Isaac Johnson and Tommy Miller for a 6-2 lead. The Royals were unable to battle back and lost 6-2 to the Growlers.
The Royals had 31 shots, one for four on the power play, Pat Nagle made ten of fifteen saves, and Nolan Maier made twelve of thirteen saves. Newfoundland had 28 shots, one for five on the power play, and Dryden McKay made 29 of 31 saves.
