On Saturday night, the Reading Royals had their home opener at Santander Arena, but remain winless after a 3-1 loss to the Indy Fuel. The Royals are 0-3-1, while the Fuel are 3-0.
After a scoreless first period, the Fuel struck first thirty-five seconds into the second period by Jan Mandát (3) on the power play for a 1-0 lead with assists from Seamus Malone and Keoni Texeira.
Then, at 8:29, the Royals tied it up 1-1 on the power play by Yvan Mongo (1) with assists from Trey Bradley and Max Newton. Late in the second period, the Fuel took a 2-1 lead on a shorthand goal from Mitchell Hoelscher (1).
After that, with one second left in the third period, the Fuel put the game away with a goal from Keoni Texeira (1) with an assist by Koletrane Wilson for a 3-1 win.
The Royals finished the night with 29 shots, one-for-seven on the power play, and goalie Nolan Maier made 19 saves. Meanwhile, the Fuel had 22 shots, one-for-five on the power play, and goalie Mitchell Weeks made 28 saves.
