On Friday night at the Santander Arena, the Reading Royals continued their four-game homestand with a 2-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers. The Royals are now 1-4-1, while the Nailers move to 2-3. Before the game, Royals’ goalie Pat Nagle was recalled by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Three minutes and twenty-two seconds into the first period, the Nailers took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sean Josling (3) with assists from Carter Johnson and Josh Maniscalco. In the second period, the Royals tied it up 1-1 on a power play goal by Charlie Gerard (2) with assists from Garrett McFadden and Trey Bradley.
Unfortunately, late in the second period, the Nailers took a 2-1 lead by Josh Maniscalco (2) with an assist from Carter Johnson. There were no goals scored in the third period.
The Royals finished the night with 31 shots, one-for-four on the power play, and Nolan Maier made 13 saves. Meanwhile, the Nailers finished with 15 shots, one-four-four on the power play, and Taylor Gauthier made 30 saves.
