On Friday night at the Santander Arena, the Reading Royals (3-4-1) defeated the Maine Mariners (4-5) for their third win of the season with a 5-3 win.
In the first period, the Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Reid Stefanson (2) and Alex-Olivier Voyer (1) on the power play. However, in the second period, the Royals battled back. Jacob Gaucher (2) cut the Mariners lead 2-1 with assists from Mike Chen and Garrett McFadden.
Then, Tyler Kirkup (1) tied the game 2-2 with assists by Alec Butcher and Dominic Cormier. Late in the second period, Max Newton (5) put Reading in the lead 3-2 with assists by Yvan Mongo and Mason Millman.
Forty-seven into the third period, the Mariners tied it up 3-3 with a goal by Jacob Wilson (1). Finally, the Royals put the game away with two goals by Jacob Gaucher (2) and Max Newton (6) for a 5-3 win.
The Royals finished the night with 37 shots, 0/2 on the power play, and Pat Nagle made 24 saves. Meanwhile, the Mariners had 27 shots, 1/2 on the power play, and Josh Boyko made 32 saves.
