On Wednesday, the Reading Royals signed goalie Brody Claeys to a Standard Player Contract (SPC). The 26-year-old from Dauphin, Manitoba, is 3-2 with a 2.41 GAA, and a .904 SV% in five games for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (SPHL).
Claeys played three seasons for the OCN Blizzard (MJHL) with a 13-22-5 record, a 3.97 GAA, and a .896 SV% in 43 games. In addition, he was 0-2 with a 6.25 GAA, and a .829 SV% in two playoff games.
Then, Claeys played two seasons in the BCHL for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (2015-16, 2016-17) with a 24-40 record, one shutout, a 3.13 GAA, and a .904 SV% in 76 games. Furthermore, Claeys went 1-4, with a 3.31 GAA, and a .897 SV% in five playoff games.
Afterward, Claeys played two seasons at the University of Alaska-Anchorage (2017-18, 2018-19) with a 2-8-1 record, one shutout, a 2.68 GAA, and a .913 SV% in 16 games.
Once his collegiate career was over, Claeys signed with the Birmingham Bulls (SPHL). In addition to the Bulls, Claeys has had stints with the Knoxville Ice Bears, Fayetteville Marksmen, and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. He’s played three seasons in the SPHL with an 8-8-2 record, one shutout, a 3.03 GAA, and a .896 SV% in 24 games.
Finally, Claeys played last season in the ECHL on loans with the Reading Royals, Worcester Railers, and the Wheeling Nailers with a 10-6-1 record, a 3.22 GAA, and a .887 SV% in 20 games.
