On Wednesday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed three 2022 Draft picks. They are offensive lineman Diego Alatorre Montoya, defensive back Tristan Fleury, and wide receiver Riley Boersma.
Diego Alatorre Montoya, a 25-year-old from Mexico, played one game for the Roughriders in the 2022 season in a Week 14 game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Roughriders drafted Montoya in the third round (27th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of British Columbia.
Montoya played five seasons for the Thunderbirds (2017-21) playing 31 games at left tackle, right tackle, and left guard in his senior year. In the 2021 season, he helped running back Isaiah Knight rush for 701 yards and three touchdowns on 113 carries and was named a Canada West Conference All-Star.
Tristan Fleury, a 25-year-old from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, was drafted by the Roughriders in the fifth round (45th pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft but returned to McGill for his final season. He played five seasons for the Redbirds (2017-22) with 164 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 40 games.
Riley Boersma, a 23-year-old from Cambridge, Ontario, was drafted by the Roughriders in the eighth round (72nd pick) in the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of Regina but returned to the Rams for his final season. Boersma played four seasons in Regina (2018-22) with 73 catches for 1,074 yards, six touchdowns, 12 carries for 86 yards, 11 kick returns for 221 yards, and six tackles in 25 games. He is a three-time Academic All-Canadian.
