On Thursday, the Calgary Stampeders signed former Florida State defensive lineman Jacob Pugh for the 2023 season. The 27-year-old from Zephyrhills, Florida, had stints with the Orlando Apollos (AAF) in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Vipers (XFL) in 2020 but did not play a game.
In college, Pugh played four seasons at Florida State (2014-17) with 108 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 49 games. In 2017, Pugh had 21 tackles and returned a fumble recovery for a 16-yard touchdown against Florida.
After college, Pugh signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He played four preseason games with five tackles.
Pugh was a highly touted prospect at Godby High School in Tallahassee where he was a Class 5A All-State First Team in his junior and senior seasons with 64 tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles on his way to being named All-Big Bend Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and led Godby to the Class 5A state championship in 2012.
