Edmonton Elks

On Monday, the Edmonton Elks signed former Miami running back Trayone Gray, former Arkansas Tech defensive back Denzel Washington, and former UBC kicker Greg Hutchins for the 2023 season.

Trayone Gray, a 26-year-old from Miami, Florida, signed with the Elks earlier this year before being released in May. In 2019, he spent training camp with the Cleveland Browns and spent part of 2020 with the Toronto Argonauts.

Collegiately, Gray played five seasons at Miami (2014-18) with 60 carries for 294 yards, five touchdowns, and six catches for 54 yards in 29 games.

Denzel Washington, a 24-year-old from Monroe, Louisiana, attended the XFL HBCU Showcase. Collegiately, Washington played three seasons at Arkansas Tech (2019-21) with 37 tackles, one interception, ten pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one block on special teams in 21 games.

Greg Hutchins, a 25-year-old from Bedford, Nova Scotia, was on Edmonton’s practice squad in 2022. In 2019, Hutchins was on the Elks (then Eskimos) practice squad before signing with the BC Lions. He never played a game for the Lions.

Collegiately, Hutchins played one season at New Mexico State in 2015 with three punts for 107 yards and one fair catch. Then, Hutchins transferred to the University of British Columbia (2016-18) for three seasons making 50 of 67 field goals (74.6%) and 211 punts for 7,799 yards, four touchbacks, 38 inside the 20-yard line, and nine that went 50 plus yards.
