On Tuesday, BC Lions wide receiver Bryan Burnham announced his retirement after eight years in the CFL all with the Lions. The 32-year-old from Moorestown, New Jersey, had 41 catches for 596 yards, and four touchdowns in the 2022 season.
“I consider it a great honor to have spent my entire professional career with a great franchise that took a chance on me and believed in me from my first day strapping on the pads,” said Burnham to BC Lions reporter Matt Baker.
“I was always told to find my passion in life and chase it. Football was always my passion. I realize now that I have new passions: my wife and these kids are my passion. That’s what I’m going to chase now. I have so much love for the city of Surrey, city of Vancouver, province and British Columbia, and for all of Canada. The CFL gave me an opportunity to truly live out my childhood dream of being a professional football player.”
Burnham ends his career playing 105 career games with the Lions (2014-2022), catching 476 passes for 7,212 yards, 42 touchdowns, five carries for 30 yards, and one punt return for seven yards. Burnham is a four-time CFL All-Star (2017-19, 2021) and a five-time CFL West All-Star (2016-19, 2021).
In 2016, Burnham had a breakout season, catching 79 passes for 1,392 yards and three touchdowns. He was scheduled to be a free agent and tried out for the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets before re-signing with the Lions in 2017.
Collegiately, Burnham played five seasons at Tulsa (2009-13) with 63 catches for 940 yards, and nine touchdowns in 24 games.
