On Tuesday, the Edmonton Elks signed offensive lineman Samuel Thomassin and kicker Ryan Meskell for the 2023 season.
Samuel Thomassin, a 27-year-old from Quebec spent the rest of the 2022 season on the Elks practice squad. Before Edmonton, he was on the Alouettes practice squad before being released on August 29th.
Montreal drafted Thomassin in the second round (19th pick) in the 2019 CFL Draft out of Laval. Thomassin played two games last season. Collegiately, Thomassin played at the University of Laval, where he is a three-time First-Team All-Canadian honors.
Ryan Meskell, a 28-year-old from Gold Coast, Australia, played one game for the Elks in 2022 in Week 9 against the BC Lions with four kickoffs for 230 yards. Collegiately, Meskell played three seasons at the University of Hawaii (2017-19) making 26 of 39 field goals (66.7%), one blocked kick, 189 kickoffs for 11,037 yards, and 56 touchbacks in 41 games. He was named to the Lou Groza Award Watch List in 2019.
