The Ottawa Redblacks and defensive back Ty Cranston agreed to a one-year contract extension on Wednesday through the 2023 season. The 28-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, had 20 tackles in 17 games for Ottawa in 2022. This will be his second season in Ottawa.
The Montreal Alouettes drafted Cranston in the seventh round (56th pick) in the 2017 CFL Draft out of the University of Ottawa. He played three seasons with the Alouettes with 62 tackles and one interception in 34 games for Montreal.
Cranston played five seasons for the Gee-Gees (2013-17) with 159 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and one block on special teams in 38 games.
