On Wednesday night at the Santander Arena, the Reading Royals (12-5-1) won their fifth consecutive game by the final score of 5-2 over the Allen Americans (5-12-1).
A minute and twenty seconds into the first period, Max Newton (12) scored his twelfth goal of the season with assists from Charlie Gerard and Shane Sellar. Then, the Americans scored back-to-back goals by Hank Crone (10) and Jack Combs (11) to go up 2-1.
Reading tied the game 2-2 at 10:21 on a goal by Charlie Gerard (4) with assists from Max Newton and Dominic Cormier. The game remained tied 2-2 after one period.
Fifty-eight seconds into the second period, the Royals took a 3-2 lead by Mason Millman (3) with assists from Trey Bradley and Evan Barratt. Late in the second period, the Royals extended their lead to 4-2 by Devon Paliani (3) with assists from Brendan Hoffmann and Pat Nagle. The Royals led 4-2 after two periods.
Six minutes and ten seconds into the third period, the Royals added one goal by Max Newton (13) with assists from Colin Felix and Charlie Gerard.
The Royals finished the night with 32 shots, 0/2 on the power play, and Pat Nagle made 23 saves. On the other side, the Americans had 25 shots, 0/6 on the power play, and former Royal goalie Logan Flodell made 27 saves.
