The BC Lions and defensive lineman David Menard agreed to a one-year contract extension on Friday through the 2023 season. The 32-year-old from Chicoutimi, Quebec, had 18 tackles, nine sacks, and one forced fumble in 18 games during the 2022 season.
“This past season was rewarding in many aspects with a great group of teammates and coaches,” said Menard to BC Lions reporter Matt Baker. “It’s a special mix of talent at every position and I can’t wait to tackle some unfinished business.”
The Lions drafted Menard in the fourth round (32nd pick) in the 2014 CFL Draft out of Montreal. Menard played six seasons in BC with 53 tackles, 18 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 94 games. Then, Menard left BC for Montreal in 2020 but the season was canceled.
He re-signed with Montreal in 2021, playing 14 games with 18 tackles, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles. In addition, Menard was named a CFL East All-Star and a Lew Hayman Trophy winner in 2021.
