The Ottawa Redblacks announced on Friday that Lewis Ward agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2024 season and wide receiver Marco Dubois agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season.
Lewis Ward, a 30-year-old from Kingston, Ontario, made 49 of 57 field goals (86%) and 25 extra points in 18 games during the 2022 season. This will be Ward’s fifth season in Ottawa.
“I’m extremely excited to be back in Ottawa for another two years, to help us get back to the level that we expect,” said Ward to Redblacks.com. “We have great people in this building, we have a lot of talent here, and we have the leadership of Coach Dyce. I’ve been blessed to have him as my special teams coach, and I’m excited to be here for the next couple of years.”
Ward signed with Ottawa as an undrafted free agent in 2018. In his rookie year, he was named a CFL East All-Star and a CFL All-Star in 2018 after making 51 of 52 field goals (98.1%) and 16 extra points in 18 games.
In addition, he was named CFL Most Outstanding Rookie and CFL Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2018. In four seasons with Ottawa, Ward has made 173 of 195 field goals (88.7%) and 64 extra points.
Collegiately, Ward played six seasons at the University of Ottawa (2012-17) making 89 of 113 field goals (79%) and 135 extra points. He was the University of Ottawa All-Time Scoring Leader (412), U Sports third in all-time scoring (89), and second in all-time field goals made (89). Ward was named OUA Second Team All-Star in 2016.
Marco Dubois, a 28-year-old from Lasalle, Quebec, caught four passes for 70 yards in 18 games. This will be Dubois’s fifth season in Ottawa.
The Redblacks drafted Dubois in the second round (13th pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft out of Laval. He had three catches for 11 yards in 17 games during his rookie year. In four seasons in Ottawa, Dubois has 13 catches for 144 yards, and one carry for one yard.
Collegiately, Dubois played four seasons at Laval University (2014-17) with 17 catches for 175 yards in 21 games. He helped Laval win the 2016 Vanier Cup over the Calgary Dinos 31-26.
