The Toronto Argonauts announced on Friday that offensive linemen Isiah Cage and Trevon Tate agreed to one-year contract extensions through the 2023 season. In addition, the Argonauts signed wide receiver Aleva Hifo.
Isiah Cage, a 29-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, played two games in 2022 due to an injury. He’s played 13 games in three seasons for Toronto. This will be Cage’s fourth season in Toronto. Collegiately, Cage played two seasons at Concordia (2011-12) playing ten games, of which four were starts at left tackle. Then, Cage transferred to Wisconsin–Eau Claire (2013-14) playing 19 games.
Trevon Tate, a 26-year-old from Houston, Texas, played four games before suffering a season-ending elbow injury. This will be Tate’s third season in Toronto. Tate signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. After the Browns released Tate, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and made his CFL Debut against Toronto on November 2nd, 2019.
Tate played two games before Hamilton released him and he signed with Toronto in 2021. Later, the Redblacks signed Tate off the Argonauts’ practice squad and played one game. He returned to Toronto and played four games for Toronto.
Collegiately, Tate played four seasons at Memphis (2015-18) playing 39 games, of which 34 were starts at left tackle and right tackle. He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference first team in 2017.
Aleva Hifo, a 24-year-old from Menifee, California, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 as an undrafted free agent but was released during training camp. The following year, he signed with the Cleveland Browns but was also released during training camp.
Collegiately, Hifo played four seasons at BYU (2016-19) with 118 catches for 1,336 yards, seven touchdowns, 55 carries for 233 yards, and four touchdowns in 51 games.
