Winnipeg Blue Bombers and DT Jake Thomas agree to a contract extension

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and defensive tackle Jake Thomas agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2023 season.

The 32-year-old from Douglas, New Brunswick, had 16 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble for the Blue Bombers in the 2022 season. He was scheduled to become a free agent.

This will be Thomas’s 11th season in the CFL all with the Blue Bombers. Winnipeg drafted Thomas in the fourth round (29th pick) in the 2012 CFL Draft from Acadia.

Thomas has helped the Blue Bombers win two Grey Cup championships. In ten seasons in Winnipeg, Thomas has 148 tackles, 26 sacks, one interception, and four forced fumbles in 169 games.

Collegiately, Thomas played four seasons at Acadia University (2008-11) with 115.5 tackles, 18 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one pass breakup in 32 games.
