Calgary Stampeders and WR Colton Hunchak agree to a contract extension

The Calgary Stampeders and wide receiver Colton Hunchak agreed to a one-year contract extension on Thursday. The 25-year-old from Calgary, Alberta, had six catches for 69 yards during the 2022 season. This will be his fourth season in Calgary.

Collegiately, Hunchak played four seasons at York University (2015-18) with 167 catches for 1,953 yards, 18 touchdowns, 14 carries for 37 yards, and three kick returns for 58 yards in 27 games. During his senior year, he finished fourth overall in the OUA in receptions (58), eighth in receiving yards (610), and tied for third in touchdowns (6).

He is a two-time OUA Second-Team All-Star. In addition, Hunchak is a three-time provincial All-Star at Notre Dame High School (Calgary, Alberta), and won the silver medal with Team Canada at the 2014 U19 world junior championships in Kuwait. The Stampeders drafted Hunchak in the eighth round (73rd pick) in the 2018 CFL Draft.

In his rookie season, Hunchak caught 16 passes for 231 yards and one kick return for 17 yards in 14 games. In 2021, Hunchak caught 16 catches for 247 yards in 14 games. In three seasons with Calgary, Hunchak has 38 catches for 547 yards, and one kick return for 17 yards in 42 games.
