The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and linebacker Kyrie Wilson agreed to a one-year contract extension on Friday. The 30-year-old from Fresno, California, had 18 tackles and one sack in four games. His 2022 season was cut short after injuring his Achilles. This will be Wilson’s sixth year in Winnipeg.
Before Winnipeg, Wilson signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2016 but was released at the end of training camp. In April 2017, Wilson signed with the Blue Bombers. In his rookie year, he made one tackle on special teams.
In five seasons with Winnipeg, Wilson has 107 tackles, four sacks, one interception, and one touchdown in 35 games. Wilson helped the Blue Bombers win two Grey Cup championships in 2019 and 2021.
Collegiately, Wilson played four seasons at Fresno State (2012-15) with 271 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, one touchdown, ten pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and one blocked kick in 41 games.
