The BC Lions and offensive lineman Andrew Peirson agreed to a two-year contract extension on Monday through the 2024 season. The 28-year-old from Kingston, Ontario, played 18 games in the 2022 season, helping the Lions reach the Western Final. Peirson was scheduled to be a free agent in February. This will be Peirson’s fifth season for the Lions.

After going undrafted in the 2018 CFL Draft, Peirson signed with the Lions. He impressed the coaches during the training camp that me made the practice squad. Later in the 2018 season, he was promoted to the active roster and played five games during his rookie year.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue my career with the only organization I’ve ever known,” said Peirson to BC Lions reporter Matt Baker. “From both an individual and a team standpoint, we took major steps in 2022 and I can’t wait to get back to camp and continue building toward the ultimate goal.”

In four seasons in British Columbia, Peirson played 38 games. Collegiately, Peirson played four seasons at Gannon University (2014-17) as both an offensive lineman and defensive lineman, making 17 tackles and one sack in 29 games.

In addition to re-signing Peirson, the Lions signed wide receiver Devin Lucien, defensive lineman Alex McCalister, and defensive back Joshua Flowers.

Devin Lucien, a 29-year-old from Los Angeles, California, was with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2020 but never suited up as the season was canceled. The New England Patriots drafted Lucien in the seventh round (225th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie year on the practice squad. Later, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2019, he signed with the Arizona Hotshots (AAF) but was traded to the Memphis Express, playing five games with nine catches for 113 yards, and one touchdown before the league ceased operations.

Collegiately, Lucien played four seasons at UCLA (2011-14) with 58 catches for 752 yards, four touchdowns, and two carries for 37 yards. Then, he transferred to Arizona State in 2015 with 66 catches for 1,074 yards, eight touchdowns, and one kick return for 39 yards in 13 games.

Alex McCalister, a 29-year-old from Fort Stewart, Georgia, played one game for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022 with one tackle. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted McCalister in the seventh round (240th pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft.

He spent two seasons on the Eagles practice squad before being released in October 2017. Two months later, he signed with the Washington Redskins but was cut during training camp in 2018.

Collegiately, McCalister played three seasons at the University of Florida (2013-15) with 52 tackles, 12.5 sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 25 games.

Joshua Flowers, a 24-year-old from Willingboro, New Jersey, attended the Jacksonville Jaguars training camp earlier this year. Collegiately, Flowers played two seasons at Long Island University (2016-17) with 68 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and six interceptions in 14 games. He was named All-NE-10 Second Team in 2016.

Then, Flowers transferred to Winston-Salem State (2019, 2021) with 62 tackles, five interceptions, and 15 pass breakups in 18 games.
