On Monday, Toronto Argonauts fullback Declan Cross announced his retirement from the CFL. The 29-year-old from Oakville, Ontario, had two catches for 22 yards and six tackles in 12 games on his way to winning his second Grey Cup championship.
Cross was the longest-tenure player on the Argo’s roster, spending six seasons. The Argonauts drafted Cross in the fourth round (27th pick) in the 2016 CFL Draft. In his rookie year, Cross had two catches for 17 yards and six tackles in 18 games.
In his second season, Cross had two carries for seven yards, 36 catches for 366 yards, and five touchdowns. In the 2017 Grey Cup game against the Calgary Stampeders, he caught a two-point conversion that ultimately led to the Argo’s winning the championship.
In six seasons with Toronto, Cross has seven carries for 28 yards, 83 catches for 740 yards, seven touchdowns, and one kick return for nine yards in 92 games.
Collegiately, Cross played four seasons at McMaster University (2012-15) with 34 carries for 228 yards, three touchdowns, and 47 catches for 469 yards, and two touchdowns in 35 games. He helped McMaster win two Yates Cup championships in 2012 and 2014.
