On Monday, former Villanova Wildcats quarterback Daniel Smith signed with the Cologne Centurions of the European League of Football (ELF). The Centurions finished 3-9 last season.
The 24-year-old from Leesburg, Virginia, played for the Saarland Hurricanes (GFL) completing 104 of 163 passes for 1,420 yards, 17 touchdowns, six interceptions, 53 carries for 427 yards, and five touchdowns in six games.
Collegiately, Smith played two seasons at Campbell University (2017-18) completing 262 of 469 passes for 3,471 yards, 31 touchdowns, ten interceptions, 241 carries for 1,940 yards, and 25 touchdowns in 20 games. He is a two-time Second Team Big South All-Conference by Phil Steele and First Team Freshman All-America by Phil Steele.
Afterward, Smith transferred to Villanova (2019-21) completing 462 of 814 passes for 6,313 yards, 60 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, 175 carries for 831 yards, and 20 touchdowns in 29 games. He gained fame in 2021 on a wild throw against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens. Smith is a two-time CAA Football Third Team Offense.
